The Smithsonian Scientific Diving Program (SDP) operates in compliance with OSHA GUIDELINES FOR SCIENTIFIC DIVING regulations. Therefore all scientific diving activities which fall under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution must adhere to the SDP policies as described in the SI-SCIENTIFIC DIVING SAFETY MANUAL.
Compliance with the OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910 Subpart T is required at all SI facilities and for all diving activities which involve SI Divers. This applies to all divers and diving activities which fall under OSHA jurisdiction.
- Qualifications necessary to dive with the SDP are described under MINIMUM STANDARDS.
- You can learn about the AUTHORIZATION process.
- SI UDOs determine what is needed to process your request to dive based on your affiliation with SI. See specific affiliation requirements under I AM A....
- Specific requirements per diver type are described for SI-SCIENTIFIC DIVER, RECIPROCITY DIVER, and TEMPORARY DIVER.
